Description: Newcastle University is the largest university in the North-East of England, with approximately 20,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. It is consistently in the top 20 UK universities for research and teaching. Research is undertaken across the full range of disciplines. CEAM (the school of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials) is a highly research-active school, ranking 5th in the UK for Chemical Engineering research.
The process Intensification Group at Newcastle has achieved to develop novel approaches to equipment design and process synthesis with the aim of miniaturising process plants and making them environmentally friendly and flexible in terms of manufacturing capabilities and providing rapid response to market demand. The research group has significant expertise in the development of compact heat exchangers, both for industrial as well as heat pump applications (lower temperatures).
Role: UNEW will take a lead role in the design of the compact heat exchanger and Develop models and simulations of the concept compact platform design to verify performance.
PSC Member: Adam Harvey Reader in Process Intensification, School of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials. Author of main Process Intensification textbook (title: Process intensification: engineering for efficiency, sustainability and flexibility (2008)). Currently supervising 2 PhDs in this area: one on uses of low-grade heat in the food and chemical industries, the other in use of organic Rankine cycles.
